This week I’m out of office and I, for once, have been taking the time to do the things that pour into me, like resting, cleaning and staying away from reading the news every few minutes. Some of this rest feels radical but it mostly feels like some survival tactic where I am subconsciously in hibernation mode so I can be ready for the fight ahead.
Tomorrow, we will most likely receive the decision on the overturning of Roe v Wade and if not then, some time next week. However, it already feels as if the decision has been made and implemented. Many abortion clinics have paused their services in anticipation of Roe being overturned while new abortion clinics are popping up near borders and airports in order to prepare for the influx that will inevitably come when Roe is overturned.
In some ways, I am feeling the anger of the system we live in but also feeling the hope that comes with knowing, we will continue this work with or without this system and its resources. Community building and resources have always been the reason why we continue to thrive, especially communities of color and marginalized identities.
Even with that said, we shouldn’t HAVE to fight for bodily autonomy and sovereignty. That thought is not lost on me, even with the hope I feel as I see individuals and communities continue organizing, creating pathways to care and holding space for all the grief we are feeling collectively.
In this space, we will be continuing sharing interview, resources, education and more. While resting, I’ve been able to get back into my creative space, the space where I thrive the most. I have some things going on in the background that I will bring to light soon!
In the mean time, here are some resources and folks that are really pouring into me right now in many different ways.
Liberation Strategies - “Liberation Strategies is for people moving toward liberation wherever they find themselves as individuals, dyads, collaborators, partners, and organizations. Using Black diasporic and indigenous healing practices, wisdom, and strategies to empower and heal, you will come to know you are already free. Liberation Strategies will help you embody freedom. That's liberation, and that's the difference.”
A Sacred Passing - A Sacred Passing's mission is to guide and assist people towards a more conscious dying experience while
honoring individual autonomy.Emmanuel H Brown (Acorn Center for Restoration & Freedom) - “Emanuel H. Brown, MSW brings humor, embodiment and keen political analysis to your audience. He curates experiences that foster engagement and awakening by weaving together, storytelling, poetry, ritual, and music. As a Black Trans* leader in healing/arts/spiritual (HEARTS) Justice he holds a unique point of view on the praxis of bringing our whole-selves on the journey towards freedom”
The next few days are about to be HEAVY but we got this as long as we continue to lean into each other and keep our liberation top of mind.
