There are new proposed regulations preventing Birth Sanctuary Gainesville, AL from moving forward under Dr. Mitchell’s license. Dr. Mitchell is a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) in the state of Alabama. We need everyone to CALL AND WRITE!! More info on where to direct your messages can be found below.
Dr. Mitchell moved to AL in 2020 as a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), but couldn’t run a birth center as a CNM because at the time, out of hospital birth care was limited to CPM. SO, she became a CPM! There were no birth centers, so Dr. Mitchell started building the Birth Sanctuary.
All of a sudden, as a soon as an out of hospital birth alternative enters the mix, now they are proposing regulations that will prevent it from moving forward.
This is the ONLY midwifery owned and birth center in the state of Alabama and so it is the only one that will be impacted by these proposed regulations.
Of note:
12 of the board members are also members of the medical board of AL
Alabama ranks in the top states in our country for maternal and infant mortality.
WE NEED ALL HANDS ON DECK!! 🚨🚨
Under these proposed regulations, put forth by the Alabama Dept of Public Health, only Medical Doctors can run and operate out of hospital birth centers (IRONIC, huh!)
