“I can’t possibly know what’s good for everyone.”
Personally, I struggle with wanting to save all the humans of the world but I’ve learned that need to help can be overbearing and send a message to the receiver that I don’t trust their ability to do what’s best for them. Hero complex on negative! Instead I remind myself I can’t possibly know what’s good for everyone, which requires me to trust a person’s decision about themselves and therefore I conserve my energy for me until someone ASKS me for help. I respect myself and the person all at the same damn time.
“Imposter Syndrome is the voice of the oppressor.”
When I hear that voice of doubt telling me I don’t belong or trying to limit me in a potentially harmful way, I ask myself where is this voice coming from? Almost always it’s not my voice but a voice that has been pushed into my head from operating in capitalism, racism, etc. These voices infiltrate our minds to keep us from striving which then maintains the systems that be. Think about it. If we didn’t have any doubt in our capabilities, how would these systems continue? They wouldn’t.
“When I say no to others, I am saying yes to myself.”
Last but not least, this whole ass 2022 has been about me learning and respecting my boundaries. The last couple years have been the years of YES but the toll of saying yes to everything created physical and mental instability. Saying no can be hard, especially when it affects your relationships and/or finances. However, when you say no to others, you say yes to yourself. Your “yes” to yourself is the most important and will create the best space for your wellness in the long run.
