Black Luxury…
…is a lifestyle I practice and I am thankful to those who have exemplified this perspective with writings and visual representations of what it means for them. An article by R29 Unbothered describes Black Luxury as, “For Black women who weren’t always welcome in these spaces, luxury is doing what makes you happy and permitting yourself to enjoy them, whether that’s spending your hard-earned dollars on designer fashion or simply treating yourself to some focused “you” time.” An article written by Lial on Medium shares another spin to Black Luxury and describes“'Black Girl Luxury' as the term given to the Instagram fabulosity of black women laden with armfuls of designer items, going on five star holidays in private jets, and enjoying the trappings of extreme wealth, but this is one of the pillars of the problem, its a very white definition of wealth”. For me, Black Luxury is a “yes, and…” mixed with general definitions and my own razzle dazzle that include my lived experience, my intersections and my own personal preferences.
